The best thing about the book is that His Holiness, the Dalai Lama has blessed the book with the foreword. He says “The treatment of an ailment doesn’t only depend on the medical expertise of a doctor; his or her warm-heartedness, care and concern for a patient is essential for the treatment to be effective.” This is an attempt by veterans and doctors with at least 30 years of experience in their respective fields to re-strengthen the doctor-patient relationship which was the pure bond, unaltered by the technological interference a few decades ago. Doctors and patients have narrated various cases which they consider created perpetual memories to remember for the entire lifetime.

2. Daughters of the Brothel by Deepak Yadav

Daughters of the Brothel by Deepak Yadav (Bigfoot Publications)

Daughters of the Brothel by Deepak Yadav is a non-fiction book that unveils the lives trapped in an inexorable web of G.B. Road. There is a total of seven chapters where each chapter represents the voice of a sex worker, however, the first chapter narrates eunuch’s story of struggle; meanwhile, the author has put open the facts and figures of subaltern communities of India while some authorities may like to remain silent about this. Deepak Yadav has done a very commendable job at research and coming up with facts and figures, inserting them whenever needed. I love him for writing this book.

Talking about the basic structure of the book, it is divided into three chapters of learning, longing and loving. The best thing about Ivory Gleam is its raw and pure form. The very essence of poetry as it should be are words. As I mentioned, its rich set of words gives you the opportunity to learn and savor the art of literature. Ivory Gleam is about different states and feelings from life to death, loss and love, I can’t even count a number of topics addressed. Poetries are not easy to comprehend, just like dreams. It is as complex as the feelings it talks about. Not all of them are complex, there is balance in it. I would never stop reading them, would keep it handy and relish whenever I want. At last, I would like to thank the author, Dr. Priya Dolma Tamang for creating such a paradise of words that, creatively took over my mind and I found nothing but peace of mind.

2. EASE: A poetic journey within by Mukhpreet Khurana

EASE by Mukhpreet Khurana is actually beyond what its title suggests. The book is a collection of poetry and prose, which mainly focuses on self-love, self-healing, gratitude and more. You will be able to deal with outside effectively only if you are aware of your insides. EASE is all about that last bit. As I mentioned a few subjects above, there are many more things addressed here by the author Mukhpreet Khurana. I will talk about a few from them. Not to generalize but it is as real as you are, anxiety, hesitancies, broken heart and being introvert. These poetries will take away all your worries and show you the path to acceptance, the first step of healing. After reading this book, I assure you that, it is meant for you all, the readers, no matter what age you are. Truly it is written with love, it will pamper you, appreciate you and at times will guide you right.

Most of them are from Indian Authors, in fact, except for one these all are from Indian Authors. This year I gotta know many Indian Authors and they're awesome. Some of them have carried out phenomenal work. So let's see what they've got in store for you. 

Note: All these books are review copies I got this year and most are debuts. For some reason, I couldn't read books by popular authors but these are Indeed recommended.

10. Feni Daze by Mathew Vincent Menacherry

Feni Daze by Mathew Vincent Menacherry (Vanguard Press)

Feni Daze by Mathew Vincent Menacherry is a Crime Thriller which follows the main character Victor Gabriel, an ex-soldier. The story takes place in Goa where he meets his former girlfriend Ana. Although the novel contains all locations from Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and Amritsar, Punjab. There are four different phases of Victor's life which are narrated throughout the novel. His life at an early age, the Indian Army life, the phase when he met Ana and the current happenings. The writing style, it was really amazing, in a true writer manner. All the senses, elements and aspects a reader seeks were all covered in the book. The author has depicted the struggles of an Indian Army Soldier, the faults of system, politics, how soldiers being crushed between seniors and police commanders, how innocent civilians' lives are filled with terror, the insurgency (Operation Blue Star) and whole lot stuff. It was a really good experience, learning the aspects of such a major historical event.

9. The Chronicle of Golgotha Days by Sujith Balakrishnan

The Chronicle of Golgotha Days by Sujith Balakrishnan (Frog in Well)

The Chronicle of Golgotha Days is a book that put on a view about inhuman acts and intense cruelty faced by their victims. Yes, this is about sexual offenders/rapists and victims of their brutality, and in this case a sixteen-year-old child Abhaya. The prologue successfully channels the horror of such acts and that it won’t be an easy read for delicate hearts but it will leave you with nothing but strength. This book will open your eyes and call you out to stand with the young victims and their families. Because here’s the thing, because of the current condition of our societies, making it to justice is much more harrowing than the pain victims are already carrying.

8. Bittersweet by Rajesh Konsam

Bittersweet by Rajesh Konsam (Vishwakarma Publications)

Bittersweet is a piece of art, an art of storytelling through stirring thoughts, authentic dialogues, songs and a creative plot. Apart from that, Bittersweet is a work of contemporary fiction following the protagonist Roshan, who is an artiste with excellent songwriting skills and limited vocal talent. Characters are really strong and dialogues on top of that help connecting us to them at such level that it brings you the same pain as them. I felt every bit of it. At first, I thought of it as an average read but the second part gave characters and the book itself a new life. There is not just the struggle one make as an artiste, they take almost life-changing decisions. I loved how the book is filled with life and reality, especially the second part. The novel is a mixture of bitterness and sweetness of the same amount, no more no less!

7. Narasimha (The Mahaavatar Trilogy #1) by Kevin Missal

Narasimha by Kevin Missal (HarperCollins India)

Narasimha is first of ‘The Mahaavatar Trilogy’, the reimagining of mythological tale about Lord Narasimha, fourth Avatar of Lord Vishnu. The story takes place in the world of Illavarti, a fictionalized fantastical version of Vedic Age. The conception of this world is just amazing and more realistic. The character arcs are very dynamic, be it Holika or Prahlad. Each supporting character contributes to the storyline. The conception of weapons and the stones that fuels them, like any other modern fiction but is meaningful for the future of story. Romance is the inevitable part of the storyline and gives the very reason for the succeeding plot. The end is satisfying and I am already waiting for the sequel. This book is an epic in the true sense for author has mind-blowingly written providing multi perspective view of ancient epic, makes it more realistic and more stimulating.

6. Tales from Bengal by Sourish Roy

Tales from Bengal by Sourish Roy (Bigfoot Publications)

Tales from Bengal is a compilation of nine short stories depicting the serious transformation in the lives of villagers of Bengal in the last few decades of the twentieth century. This is the work of fine literature and Sourish Roy has put life in this book. Author narrates these significant stories using profound language and creative writing style. While urbanization brought massive transformation, it wasn’t good for everyone. As the author says, these villagers are still waiting for elevation in their wretched living, which would probably take more time and until then would undergo numerous changes as depicted in the book. I really loved each story and devoured them again and again to re-ingest those feelings of pain and acceptance.

5. Snakes in the Meadows by Ayaz Kohli

Snakes in the Meadows is a saga of the onset of militancy, the suffering and the resilience of Pir Panjal ─ the ‘and’ of Jammu and Kashmir. The structure and the narration of the book is very well-formed for accumulating all the different stories that revolve around Jammu and Kashmir and more importantly the lives of the residents of Pir Panjal over the span of 25 years. All the tales that Ayaz Kohli has included, directly or indirectly affecting the plot are great and mesmerizing and some as melancholic. The struggles that each character is going through offers a lesson to remember for lifetime. You will learn ‘Freedom is priceless’.

4. A Year of Wednesdays by Sonia Bahl

A Year of Wednesdays by Sonia Bahl (Fingerprint Publishing)

A Year of Wednesdays is a work of Contemporary-Fiction, written with exceptional brilliancy and I’m not even exaggerating. The book felt more like an impromptu journey than a perfect plotted story. It’s a first-person point of view narration of two strangers connected through their first and only encounter. I found it wittiest that how these characters present their point of view to each other and even in their own minds. It is absolutely brilliant, the author Sonia Bahl enlightens us with insights on the planet & its population, climate change, lefties, a lot of movies and quotes. You get so used to with those impactful and captivating characters that you would not want to leave them because that means giving up those ever-lasting Wednesdays.

23:59:59 – The Journey of Survival in the B-Schools of India is a commendable work done by an MBA degree holder, Sadashiv Pradhan. Describing in one sentence, the book depicts the life of B-School students throughout their two years course of MBA, irrespective of whether they are having a specific purpose behind it or not. I liked everything from cover to the end of the book. Those punches of laughter once in a while between the hectic days for characters. The book is truly a journey that gives a current scenario of B-Schools and the struggles of students surviving there. I would recommend it to every student in India whether they are pursuing MBA or not. I think it can be very helpful for students who want to pursue MBA. And to all others, for it will show you how difficult choices can be for a student after graduation.

2. Teddy Bear Chronicles by Donnalyn Vojta

Hope in Paris! (First Book) is a suspense thriller book amazingly narrated by three teddy bears. And it is not a story for KIDS. Yes. Talking about narration, it is the best-est part of Hope in Paris! There are three Teddy Bears at different locations who narrates the story, like they can read and listen and have minds that can store the memories. But like any other non-living objects, they can’t move by themselves or smell or eat. Donnalyn Vojta is so intelligent that she took care of this very well, the Teddy Bear learns as they watch and observe. The humor that Teddy Bears added was very entertaining in this suspense thriller. The characters and their backstory that the reader can directly connect to. At first, the story was slow paced but gradually paced faster. It is really charming how the Donnalyn Vojta has carried out good two relationships considering the fact of their being in Paris. Last but not the least the mental disorders factor. And the bully parents issues.

Chloe's Crusade! by Donnalyn Vojta (New Traditions Publishing)

Chloe’s Crusade! is second in the series, The Teddy Bear Chronicles. As the first book Hope in Paris! was extraordinary, I expected so much from this sequel and guess what! Author has done astounding job writing such an epic suspense thriller. There is more humor, more suspense, more action and more fun! The writing style is as it was in previous one but seems improved with different languages and narration style of newly introduced bear. The characters are powerful with their unique strengths and weaknesses. Opening and ending are as entertaining and thrilling as the whole book is. Now I think that this is one of those underrated books which has to be recognized and deserves all the attention in the world.

1. You Beneath Your Skin by Damyanti Biswas

You Beneath Your Skin by Damyanti Biswas (Simon & Schuster India)

You Beneath Your Skin is a crime-thriller novel that will keep you to the edge of your seat from first page till the end. The book is the conglomeration of profound characters and enthralling plot. The story is narrated in third person omniscient point of view.  The writing style is just perfect for this tremendously progressive plot, literally it won’t leave you once you start reading this book till end. There is not a single moment that had not made a progress, also expositions are perspicuous yet intense. Apart from Acid Attacks and Autism, this book also shows the lifestyle of underprivileged people and what is the value of their lives. And with that, how privileged people take advantage of them to quench their thirst for wicked pleasures. With politics, the story is wrapped just like how people conceal their foul deeds for the sake of reputation.  I highly highly recommend this book to everyone out there reading this.

A Year of Wednesdays is a work of Contemporary-Fiction, written with exceptional brilliancy and I’m not even exaggerating. The book felt more like an impromptu journey than a perfect plotted story. It’s a first-person point of view narration of two strangers connected through their first and only encounter. I found it wittiest that how these characters present their point of view to each other and even in their own minds. And oh, I can’t even describe how well the writing style is, like A++ minus─ (minus), eventually A+++. It is absolutely brilliant, the author Sonia Bahl enlightens us with insights on the planet & its population, climate change, lefties, a lot of movies and quotes.

"You should never have to tell someone how to love you."

The strangers are called Seat 7A and Seat 7B. Seat 7A is the cool Wall Street guy and Seat 7B is the mom-with-the-drool-stained-sweater-and-ordinary-aspirations. After the first encounter, they leave and continue to live their distinct and way too different lifestyles in New York. Seat 7A is a goal-oriented working in an oil-trading firm. Seat 7B works for a small nature fund, she’s a green warrior. Seat 7A has a girlfriend; Natasha is nothing-or-nobody-can-stand-between-me-and-my-career girl. Seat 7B is married to her love of life, Riz with two kids and one of them is a toddler. They have a pet also.

"Losing someone is always unfair."

A Year of Wednesdays, the collection of Wednesdays to look into their individual life and understand their perspective on life, whether it’s all about winning or the love and why is that? They might have left the flight, but not the memories of never-ending arguments. It’s like they are living in each other’s mind, still connected. Sonia Bahl has represented their lives in Wednesdays, through their daily struggles and for one reason or another happens to remember those arguments and defend their point of views.

"Imagine what a gift it is to have someone give you their full attention because they really do want to hear you."

One thing they don’t know is, what the other one’s going through currently in their life. The Wednesdays continue with its course, portraying moments of happiness, sorrow, fun, their life stories and never-ending thoughts. The major conflict of the book is capitalism and how that approach to the economy does not take into consideration the preserving of natural resources. The constant use of such economic system can result in depletion of natural resources and that we are living at the expense of our future generation. Anyways, Seat 7A does his job as demanded, enjoying the perks of being a trader and exaggerate the idea of saving the earth and there’s nothing wrong in what he is doing, supporting capitalism through oil trading firm. He would not understand the idea of pausing and reflecting back on life. Seat 7B is all about little moments of love, joy and kindness, she believes that if her boys learn and teaches kindness, her job is done. But we all know that nothing’s right or wrong. It always varies.

Towards the end, the author Sonia Bahl opens the secret doors to their lives, reveals their close-to-heart moments and the life stories, and explains what makes them who they are now. As the pages turn, the words seem to be touched by poignance. The feeling grows intense of confronting each other and putting the full stop to the never-ending arguments they’re having in the head. And that is what exactly happens.

"I can't decide if it's worse to carry the load of crazy sadness from losing a parent or the one that comes from knowing you'll never miss a parent you'll lose."

You would ask what all so good about A Year of Wednesdays, I will say ‘EVERYTHING’. As you start reading the book, you start laughing out loud. Like, the analogies and the comparisons the author has used are hilarious sometimes. Moving forward, you get used to the fun and joyful moments. A Year of Wednesdays is full of references─ quotes, movies, pop-culture and what not. Yes, Harry Potter is also a part of this, whose 39^th birthday was the last Wednesday of July. There are life-changing and life-saving insights that made me wonder only, how didn’t I know this before. That adorable couple parenting two little boys. With that, emotions take over you─ love, compassion, care and warmth. Then comes the feelings of sorrow and loss. But that humour, insights and arguments never fade away. In the end, the book leaves you filled with emotions yet numb. You get so used to with those impactful and captivating characters that you would not want to leave them because that means giving up those ever-lasting Wednesdays.

My Top 10 Most Anticipated Books of 2019

So here are The Top 10 Most Anticipated Books releasing in 2019 which I can't wait to read and I really hope I get to read each one of them despite of my current huge TBR (To Be Read) pile. There is 1 book which will be releasing in 2020 January from one of my favorite authors, so I have counted it also.

I wish that all would prove to be 5 STARS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for me. These all are from my favorite NY Times Best Selling authors. Four books from this Top 10 Most Anticipated Books list are sequels to my favorite novels from favorite authors. Three of the remaining six books are first books in the fresh new series from some amazing authors I adore.

The list is sorted by release dates (as per my best knowledge) from March 2019 to January 2020. Let's Dive In.

10. Children of Virtue and vengeance (Legacy of Orïsha #2)

Children of Virtue and Vengeance

First things first. If you haven't checked my Top 10 list of 2018 then check it here - Top 10 Most Favorite Books of 2018. Thanks! Now you know, which books and/or genre I love the most.

Legacy of Orisha was declared a trilogy by Tomi Adeyemi. The first in the series Children of Blood and Bone was completely successful and made it to #1 on The New York Times Bestsellers List. The story follows the character Zelie Adebola who's mother was killed by a brutal King Saran who rules over the land of Orisha. The second in the trilogy was announced to be released on 7th of March this year but just few days back Tomi Adeyemi re-announced that the book will be releasing late this year on 3rd December. After reading the Children of Blood and Bone, I was waiting for second release desperately because this is the story you cannot wait to explore. But now have to wait longer. However there are a lot anticipated releases in between so nothing to worry about.

9. The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu (The Eldest Curses #1)

As we all know (or by now you'll know) that Cassandra Clare is also the #1 New York Times Bestseller, author of The Shadowhunter Chronicles. Now, she has declared the first book in the all new series (The Eldest Curses) writing along with award winner sci-fi author Wesley Chu. The series follows characters, High Warlock Magnus Bane from the Shadowhunter Chronicles and his boyfriend Alec Lightwood. Who are on a vacation in europe, when the news arrives about the demon-worshipping cult called the Crimson Hand. I bet this is going to be as awesome as other cassandra Clare works. The Red Scrolls of Magic is planned to be released on 9th of April this year.

Again, but Better by Christine Riccio

Christine Riccio is one of my favorite Booktubers, she makes awesome bookish content and about writing too. Again, but Better is the story about giving yourself a second chance and being brave enough to try again. I read the synopsis on Goodreads and Shane is already making me curious. The story is about Shane, a college student living same monotonous life. now, she needs change and signs up for a semester abroad in London. Then she faces the problems with 'being outside her comfort zone' but she finds out that with right amount of courage and determination one can tackle anything. This is going to be magical and I can't wait to read it. As of now, many are facing the same fear of being outside the bubble. Be it a magic or self-confidence, we have to arm ourselves with such power that can conquer your fears. Love from India, Christine Riccio! Again, but Better will be launched on 7th May.

Victoria Schwab is American fantasy author best known for her Vicious and the Shades of Magic series. I've seen many booktubers recommending her books for so long and she has been favorite author for many of them. Tunnel of Bones is the sequel of her City of Ghosts, which follows the character named Cassidy. Cassidy can see ghosts and then she finds Lara who also can see dead. Lara tells her that as In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the veil. Well that is the story of the first book City of Ghosts which was set in Edinburgh, Scotland. Now it sets in Paris where her parents are shooting a new TV show about most haunted cities in the world as before. She is with her ghost friend Jacob (of course) and again some spirit is haunting the city. As the first in the series did charms on us, I would love to discover the haunted Paris. Tunnel of Bones will be released on 3rd Sept.

6. Starsight by Brandon Sanderson (Skyward #2)

Starsight by Brandon Sanderson

Brandon Sanderson is American fantasy and science fiction writer best known for his Cosmere Universe, in which his most of the fantasy novels are set. He is also known for finishing Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time. The series follows a great, powerful, strong, funny  character, protagonist, Spensa. I've heard alot about her in last few months from readers who read Skyward, the first book in the series. She longs to be pilot but for some reason her last name wouldn't allow her to be one. when she discovered M-Bot, an AI driven ancient ship, she realizes that her dream might be possible. The Skyward ended with such a climax and directs to the second book. This is going to be more of Spensa and more flying and fighting in planes. The release of Starsight is planned on 29th Oct.

5. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (Alex Stern #1)

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

In 2018, my goal was to read Six of Crows Duology, which got so much hype in 2018, everyone was talking about it. However, i couldn't read it but I learned a lot about the world she has created which is known as Grishaverse. Leigh Bardugo is known for her Grisha Trilogy and Six of Crows Duology. These all books are set in the Grishaverse. I am in love already, how booktubers are talking about it. Whoa! I hope this  year I get to read it all. Ninth House is first in the series which would follow the character Alex Stern, who is 20 yo high-school dropout with a criminal past. And mysteriously get a second chance as a Yale University freshman. I am so into it. Ninth House is expected in October this year. (Probably 1st Oct.)

As you all know by reading the last post: Top 10 Favorite Books of 2018, Erin Morgenstern and her  The Night Circus has charmed all the readers with the phantasmagorical tale of the two empowered magicians. Now after so long wait of six years, she is back with another (her second) captivating novel. The Starless Sea will be following a character named Zachary Ezra who finds an unusual book in the library in which he encounters his own childhood. Strange right? Intriguing. There is much more in the synopsis.Have a look at the Goodreads page. It is going to be as fantastic as The Night Circus. I am craving more of Erin Morgenstern's 'fairytale in one way or another'. We love you so much. The Starless Sea will be released on 5th November.

3. Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell (Simon Snow #2)

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

I am f*ing excited to know what happens with Simon and Baz. The first book Carry On was so fun, comic, romantic and MAGICKAL. The characters, their bond of friendship and relationship, the magic, the vampire, the locks of hair (one of my favorites). I just loved it. I don't wanna spoil but the ending was a bit sad. I can't wait to see how they are getting along while they've lost the connection which brought them together. Would they be able to Carry On? FYI, I just love'em. Wayward Son was to be released next year but Rainbow Rowell preponed it to 7th Nov. this year. Hurray!

2. Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare (The Last Hours #1)

I've already said but again, Cassandra Clare is awesome. Her Shadowhunter Chronicles are most famous like she has won so many awards for this and now she is back with another Shadowhunters Trilogy and Chain of Gold is first in the series where evil hides in plain sight and the only thing more dangerous than fighting demons is falling in love. In Cassie style, this is going to be great and look at the cover! It is out already and so Shadowhunter vibes. Chain of Gold is expected to get released on 19th Nov.

Adam Silvera. I am his huge huge fan. No kidding, he's awesome. I just love him (*blushing*). Adam Silvera is New York Times bestselling author of They Both Die at the End, More Happy Than Not and History Is All You Left Me. And What If It's Us co-written with Becky Albertelli (Author of Simon vs. Homosapiens Agenda) was fabulous. He is tall for no reason and lives in New York City. He always talks about fan-fictions and fantasy characters of Harry Potter and more. Finally he has come with fantasy series called Specters. Infinity Son is the first in series. Adam said that there will be PHOENIXES. Whoa sold!! And it is not arriving sooner than January 2020.
